Now that things have settled down a wee bit, I can finally write my little entry about Austin. First off, lemmie say how so very thrilled I am to have the opportunity to experience the Boston Marathon expo later this year (no, I’m not running Boston!! Don’t be silly!), as I was kinda disappointed with [...]

My final long run yesterday morning was not without a little adventure. 6 miles was on the sked, but it was a new route. And I got a little lost about 3 miles in. When I get lost, a few things happen — I start to run faster, my rhythm gets altered and my mind [...]

Hallelujiah! This morning’s 10-miler was AWESOME. Didn’t walk a step and felt great the whole time. I very much needed this confidence-booster going into the Austin 1/2 Marathon. Starting with last week’s horrible 10, the stress level of my workweek was off the charts, and as a result, my heart was racing for a good [...]

I thought about posting about my horrendous 10-miler this past Saturday, but because I whined and moaned and complained and kicked and screamed all that day about it, I decided I wouldn’t revisit the bitterness and defeat I felt when my endurance decided to abandon me at Mile 6. I’m over it. Let’s move on, [...]

12-MILER I am feeling wonderfully sore this morning after yesterday’s 12-miler. It was a tough-y, as I am still working on the stamina re-build, but I was happy to discover I still had it in me to at least go that distance — makes me feel good about taking on the Austin 1/2 Marathon. I [...]

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES There’s no reason there should be a question mark at the end of my post title. It is a change for the better. Period. I know it is wiser to run a strong 1/2 marathon than to run a crappy, possibly debilitating full marathon. And so, I made the official downgrade through the Austin [...]

I will know on Saturday if I will be able to continue training for the full 26.2 miles in the Austin Marathon. If I can’t manage 15-18 miles on Saturday, plus 21 miles next weekend, I will have to run the 1/2 marathon in Austin. Since I pulled my quadricep muscle on Dec. 19, I [...]

This is cool. Just sayin’.

Because there was no freezing rain in the forecast, the 15-mile group run was a go Saturday morning. Temperatures were still freezing though (27 degrees), so I was very grateful I purchased my Mizuno running gloves Friday. I wore 3 layers of running tops, my trusty full-length CW-X pants, plus a fleece scarf, a fleece [...]

Will ya look at the elevation of this course? course_profile Holy frick. Yup … definitely think a 3:1 interval will be in order for this, which basically means running 3 miles/walking 1 mile for the entire race. A couple people in my running group have run marathons using this method and they said it made [...]
